JTOWER has launched tower sharing service utilizing the telecommunication tower acquired from NTT DOCOMO
JTOWER Inc. announces the launch of tower sharing service for multiple tenants utilizing the telecommunications tower acquired from telecommunications operator.
Against the backdrop of expanding demand for the installation sites for 5G base stations, JTOWER entered the outdoor tower sharing business in 2020. Since then, the company has increased the number of towers available for tower sharing and strengthening its business foundation by actively promoting the acquisition of towers (carve-outs) from telecommunications operators, in addition to constructing new towers. Since 2022, the company concluded contracts for the acquisition of approximately 7,700 towers owned by NTT DOCOMO, NTT EAST and NTT WEST, and preparations have been underway for tower sharing.
This time, JTOWER has launched the tower sharing service at the tower acquired from NTT DOCOMO located in Shizuoka Prefecture. In addition, there are also towers for which leasing contracts have been concluded and the tower sharing will sequentially expand.
Tower sharing not only reduces CAPEX and OPEX for telecom operators, but it also minimizes environmental impact by reducing the number of constructions and being more considerate of the landscape. Additionally, when it comes to maintaining telecommunications infrastructure, operators face challenges beyond just repairing and replacing aging towers; they also need to prepare for large-scale disasters. This makes stabilizing base station operations and maintenance costs a significant concern. As a result, sharing of existing infrastructure among telecommunications operators is expected to be an effective solution to these challenges in the future.
As a pioneer of Infra-Sharing, JTOWER will leverage its accumulated technical expertise and insights in the telecommunications field to promote the effective use of existing infrastructures in tandem with the digitalization of society, thereby contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.
