JTOWER plans to install 5G network in Minato Mirai 21 area

JTOWER Inc. applied for 5G Base Station Sharing Project in the Minato Mirai 21 area, which was launched by Yokohama Minato Mirai 21 Corporation on June 17, 2022 and we are pleased to announce that it has been decided that we proceed to the detailed discussion with relevant parties. Aiming for the early development of 5G, we will promote the installation of telecommunications networks through Infra-Sharing utilizing Multi-function poles.

5G Base Station Sharing Project will work on the early deployment of 5G networks in the Minato Mirai 21 area, where the advanced urban development has been promoted, in order to improve convenience for inhabitants, workers and visitors and realize the smart city that has been going digital. The 5G radio wave travels short distances and requires more base station installations than 4G, but in the Minato Mirai 21 area, we plan to consolidate the installations of base stations through Infra-Sharing and other means as we promote urban development that gives consideration to a good city view.

Yokohama Minato Mirai 21 Corporation is an organization composed of land and building owners, facility management operators in the relevant area and manages the entire region through urban development, environmental measures and cultural and promotional activities. The 5G network development project led by the area management organization is a pioneering initiative in Japan.

Going forward, we will implement concrete discussions and coordination for the installation with relevant parties and in cooperation with each mobile network operator, to materialize and realize the project.

As a pioneer of Infra-Sharing, we will contribute to the digitization of society by maximizing the technologies and knowledge we have cultivated in the telecommunications field.
