PRESS RELEASE

Development of the indoor 5G network utilizing Infra-Sharing in the Tochomae station building on Toei Transportation

We are pleased to announce that JTOWER will develop the indoor 5G network utilizing Infra-Sharing in the Tochomae station building on Toei Transportation and launch services on May 21, 2022. This initiative is the first attempt in Japan to develop 5G networks inside the subway station utilizing Infra-Sharing.

For this project, the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation had been recruiting a cooperating company to develop and verify necessary equipment, such as antennas, in Tochomae station on Toei Transportation Oedo Line and we were selected as the cooperating company. We will be responsible for the development, verification and operation of 5G networks utilizing Infra-Sharing.
The use of Infra-Sharing not only saves space and electricity, but also reduces materials and construction works, realizing more efficient and environment-conscious network development.
From May 21, a certain mobile network operator will begin the service, and we plan to gradually launch services for other mobile network operators in the future.

In 2020, we completed the development of Infra-Sharing equipment compatible with 5G Sub6. In November 2020, we developed the Japan’s first 5G network utilizing Infra-Sharing in the TMG No.1 building and began full-scale introduction of the services. As of March 2022, the number of installations, including the installation plans, has increased to 75.

Starting with this project, we will further strengthen our business foundation in order to contribute to the development of 5G networks in subways and other railway stations.
